Jesus Christ
Who is this Jesus cat that all these "Christians" talk secretively about? Quite simply, he's the person that cares more about you than anyone you've ever met. He loves you more than your parents, your spouse, your best friend or anyone else that you might want to throw into the mix. His single greatest desire is for you to spend time with him. Jesus is God in a human body, come to Earth to allow us to spend an eternity, beginning right now, with him.
Christians today are supposed to be doing just that, spending time with Jesus. But there are so many negative
connotations that go with the name "Christian" anymore, that
I prefer to identify myself as a follower of Jesus. It better
describes my intent and who I am striving to be like than what "Christian"
may conjour. What it's called is not the point - it's just important to
me... and maybe you...
I'm guilty of making
the whole follower of Jesus much more difficult than it really is. I could spout off a bunch
of "religious" stuff about what you need to do to become a
follower of Jesus, but God makes it very simple. If you believe that He
is God and you ask two very simple questions, you've done all you have
to do to get the ball rolling:
- Ask Jesus to forgive
you for creating a gap between him and you.
- Ask him to allow
you to be the person that he created you to be.
He will begin revealing
himself to you as your relationship builds.
I could give you a
list of specific things to say, or even type out a prayer for you to follow,
but its not necessary. God doesn't care what or how you ask these two
questions as long as you are sincere. He knows your heart and wants to
spend time with you. He's not concerned if you covered all of the theological bases.
He's really not even concerned if you fully understand who he is, he just wants to spend time with you and be given the chance to show you how much he cares.
If you've just asked the two questions above, please drop me an email and let me know you're spending time with Jesus. There's tons of information online about Jesus, but I highly recommend getting involved in a Bible-teaching church in your area to journey with other people that are learning to spend time with Jesus as well.
Christ be with you...
